New Apartment: First Peek

Tomorrow is our official move-in date for the new apartment, although we have 2 weeks in which to move--I like to play it safe.  So today during lunch we picked up the key and tested it out during business hours to make sure we weren't stuck over the weekend with no key.  The first good news is that the thermostat was set to 78--and it was cool and comfortable.  There are ceiling fans--good quality ceiling fans that seem to work--in every room except the bathrooms.  The bad news is that the bedrooms have horrendous carpet (though it is in good shape) and the walls are painted a high gloss beige (complete with paint drips) except in one bedroom, which is pale yellow.  Blech.  There might be some paint in our future...  But on the whole, I'm excited.  Here's a preview.

Anton checks the blinds in the living room. The tile is lovely.  I can imagine any number of colors that would look better with this tile.

The kitchen is rather small.  We've had small kitchens before.  I've been considering strategies.  The fridge is REALLY tiny, which might be a problem, and the range hood is horrible.  The stove is from a little later in the last century than our current stove, but the current one looks to be a better brand. Oh well.

The dining area is about the same, which is fine.  It might be a little smaller, but it will fit our table.  And LOOK!  No carpet.  

This is the hallway.  It has no boxes in it, nor rubbermaids, and not a single basket of clean clothes.  I intend for it to stay that way!  The washer and dryer (included) are in the closet to the right (not in the bathroom!!!), and waaaay down at the end of the hall is a small wall!!  Bookshelves could be placed there!!  (If this seems to excite me overmuch, it is because our current--and possibly our previous--apartment deadended into a bedroom.)

This is the backyard.  Okay, maybe this is only the right half of the backyard.  It gets better.

The backyard butts up against the park (which, unfortunately, is right next to the sewage plant.  But we've been living right here anyway, and it's not too bad as long as they don't have another drainfly infestation.)

What's really nice is that there is a little bit of landscaping that makes it look like someone cares.

And we sort of do.
